Benjamyn's Pottery
In July 2026, I began exploring pottery through private lessons, learning the fundamentals of working with clay and discovering the process of creating with my hands. As a new creative outlet, pottery has given me the opportunity to slow down, experiment, and explore a different form of creativity through texture, color, and design. This collection captures my first pieces as I continue learning and growing in my ceramics journey.

Handcrafted Octopus Bowl
My first pottery piece, this wheel-thrown ceramic bowl features a red octopus illustration and layered ocean-inspired glazes in shades of blue and earthy green. Inspired by Marcellus, the octopus at the heart of Remarkably Bright Creatures, this piece was my first exploration of bringing inspiration from books and nature into my pottery.

Octopus Trinket Dish/Coaster
A hand-thrown ceramic plate featuring a deep blue octopus illustration surrounded by layered ocean-inspired glazes in shades of blue and earthy green. This piece continues my exploration of translating inspiration from literature into functional pottery through texture, color, and coastal imagery.

A hand-thrown ceramic plate featuring a detailed whale illustration, surrounded by layered glazes in sandy cream and warm, earthy brown tones. Inspired by the ocean and marine life, this work is part of my ongoing exploration of bringing coastal influences into functional pottery.

Mouse Mug
A hand-thrown ceramic mug featuring a small mouse nestled in its nest, with layered glazes in earthy brown and green tones. Inspired by the changing seasons and my love of animals, this was my first mug and taught me a lot about shaping, glazing, and finishing. I’m especially happy with the overall shape and colors, despite the few imperfections that came with the process.

Wonky Fruit Bowl
A hand-thrown ceramic fruit bowl finished with a colorful, citrus-toned glaze. I didn’t love this one at first. I was disappointed by how uneven the rim turned out, but it definitely taught me a few things, especially that I need to work on my centering.
There was no particular inspiration behind this one, we just needed a fruit bowl for our kitchen. It’s wonky, but useful, and I’ve grown rather fond of it.

Dinner Plate
A hand-thrown ceramic dinner plate finished with layers of turquoise and pale blue glaze, with robin’s egg-colored speckles. This was my first dinner plate, and there was no particular inspiration behind it. I just wanted to make something practical that we could actually use at home. I’m really happy with the shape and colors, especially the organic look. I also love the texture I was able to add by using my fingers to create a spiral in the dish during the throwing process.
